To promote and advance awareness, understanding, and clarity of all educational leadership standards, including the Professional Standards for Educational Leadership (PSEL), the National Educational Leadership Preparation (NELP) Standards, and the Model Standards for Principal Supervisors.
To harness the resources and networks of member organizations to identify opportunities for collective advocacy, foster collaboration, and support member organizations and NPBEA’s initiatives.
To ensure the continuing relevance and adaptability of educational leadership standards—including PSEL, NELP, and the Model Standards for Principal Supervisors—in response to evolving leadership contexts and educational needs.
NPBEA’s Board and member associations have launched an advocacy effort to raise awareness about the value of the Professional Standards for Educational Leadership (PSEL) among educators and state policymakers.
NPBEA’s advocacy includes all seven member organizations, encompassing tens of thousands of members, such as school principals, superintendents, chief state school officers, and leaders of advanced leadership preparation programs.
All seven organizations have endorsed the Professional Standards for Educational Leadership and will support outreach efforts to encourage states to adopt PSEL through member conferences and communications.

Dr. Jackie O. Wilson brings over 50 years of experience in K-20 education, including roles as a teacher, principal, state leader, and higher education administrator. A former Executive Director of the Delaware Academy for School Leadership, she now consults with national organizations and school districts across the U.S. and serves as Executive Director of the National Policy Board for Educational Administration. She is the co-author of Blended Coaching, 2nd edition (2023) and is recognized for her leadership in professional standards and educator development.
L. Earl Franks, Ed.D., CAE, is the executive director of the National Association of Elementary School Principals, bringing over three decades of pre-K–12 education experience. A recognized advocate for public education and school leadership, he represents pre-K–8 principals on national boards and coalitions and was inducted into the Alabama Educational Leadership Hall of Fame in 2018.
Dr. Carissa Moffat Miller is the Chief Executive Officer of the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), leading efforts to ensure equitable education opportunities for all students and preparing them for college, careers, and life. A first-generation college graduate and the first woman to lead CCSSO in its 90-year history, she brings extensive experience in state and national education policy, including her work as deputy superintendent in Idaho.
A lifelong educator, Nozoe has served in leadership roles at ASCD since 2015, including associate executive director and interim executive director, spearheading initiatives such as the ASCD Whole Child Network and ASCD Activate. Prior to ASCD, he was deputy assistant secretary for policy and programs at the U.S. Department of Education, focusing on teacher quality, school safety, and equity in education.
Dr. Byrne-Jiménez is the Executive Director of the University Council for Educational Administration at Michigan State University and an Associate Professor in Educational Administration K-12. Her work focuses on Latinx identity, social justice leadership, faculty diversity, and doctoral student experiences. A former urban educator in New York City, she is a published author and past president of UCEA and the Latino Alumni Association of Columbia University.
Dr. Stacey Edmonson is the Dean of the College of Education at Sam Houston State University, with over 32 years of experience in Texas education as a teacher, principal, administrator, and professor. A leader in educator preparation, she serves as chair-elect for AACTE, Executive Director of ICPEL, and has held numerous national and state leadership roles. An accomplished author and researcher, she has published extensively on education issues and secured over $13.5 million in grant funding.
Valerie Truesdale serves as AASA’s Senior Vice President, Leadership Network, leading professional learning. She previously served ten years as superintendent in Beaufort and Oconee Counties, SC, and as Chief Officer for Transformation and Technology at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, advancing personalized learning for 151,000 students. Valerie’s career includes roles as chief academic officer, deputy superintendent for the SC Department of Education, high school principal, and teacher. She is a Certified Educational Technology Leader (CETL) and Certified Education Technology Officer (CECTO), co-founded North Carolina’s CoSN chapter, and served six years on its board. A former SC Superintendent of the Year, past president of ASCD International, and Charlotte Business Journal CTO of the Year, Valerie currently serves on the NPBEA board. She holds a Ph.D. from USC, an MBA from Georgia State, and a B.A. in Education from Clemson University.
